Senior Accountant

Department: Accounting
Location: Goshen, IN

Greencroft Communities - Goshen, IN (Onsite Position)

Greencroft Communities is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our accounting team. This position offers the opportunity to independently own key accounting areas while supporting the financial strength and mission of a faith-based, nonprofit senior living organization.

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will manage the complete accounting, reconciliation, analysis, and reporting for assigned entities and account categories. This is an individual contributor position with no direct reports.

Schedule: Monday–Friday with a flexible start time between 7:00 and 8:30 a.m. The typical workday concludes around 5:00 p.m.; however, occasional extended hours may be needed based on meetings, deadlines, and organizational priorities.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead month-end close activities for assigned areas, including preparing and posting journal entries, reviewing account activity, and completing reconciliations.
  • Manage accounting responsibilities for areas that may include:
  • Cash, investments, and treasury
  • Debt and investments
  • Fixed assets and capital projects
  • Revenue and receivables
  • Life lease and resident deposits
  • Payroll and benefits
  • Insurance
  • Intercompany accounts
  • Foundation and restricted funds
  • Analyze account fluctuations, investigate variances and unusual transactions, and clearly document findings.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP and long-term care cost-reporting requirements.
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for IRS Form 990, cost reports, and regulatory reporting.
  • Participate in reimbursement, cost-reporting, and Medicaid supplemental payment programs, including IGT and UPL processes.
  • Maintain accounting documentation, standard operating procedures, and standardized reconciliation formats.
  • Support system enhancements, special projects, and organizational initiatives.
  • Develop a strong working knowledge of senior living, healthcare reimbursement, life lease accounting, and other industry-specific accounting practices.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Four or more years of accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting principles and procedures.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong reconciliation, financial reporting, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to independently manage assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA certification or active CPA candidacy.
  • Accounting experience within healthcare, senior living, or a nonprofit organization.
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a similar ERP system.
